Your Shorts Are Talking. What Are They Saying?

Your Shorts Are Talking. What Are They Saying?

There's a moment in every fighter's training journey when they stop wearing whatever was on sale on Amazon and start thinking about what they actually want to wear, what feels like them. It's subtle. It might happen six months in, or a year. But at some point, the gear stops being an afterthought and starts being an extension of who you are.

Muay Thai has always been an art. That's not a marketing line — it's the literal translation. "Muay" means boxing, but the practice has always carried an artistic dimension: the *wai kru ram muay*, the flowing footwork, the rhythm of the clinch. There's a reason the most technical Muay Thai fighters are often described as artists. The sport demands creativity, problem-solving, and personal expression in every exchange.

So why would your gear be any different?

The Art of Showing Up

Think about the last time you walked into the gym in something you genuinely loved wearing. The energy is different. You're not thinking about how you look — you're free to think about how you move. That's what great gear does. It gets out of the way and lets you train.

But there's something else happening too. When your shorts feature a design that resonates with you — an image that means something, a color combination that makes you feel electric, a collaboration with an artist whose work you respect — you're making a statement about who you are before you ever throw a punch. You're saying: *I take this seriously. This is mine.*

In a gym full of people in generic black shorts, the fighter in the [Koi Fish Muay Thai Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/koi-fish-muay-thai-shorts) stands out — not because they're trying to, but because they made a deliberate choice. Same with the person wearing the [California Poppies](https://shipscofight.com/products/california-poppies-muay-thai-shorts), or the [Luchador Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/luchador-muay-thai-shorts), or the deep ocean-blues of the [Deep Waters collection](https://shipscofight.com/collections/muaythaishorts). Each of those is a story.

## Why We Design the Way We Do

SHIPSCO was founded in 2021 by Stephen Jones — a Muay Thai Practitioner and visual artist who saw a gap between the quality of Muay Thai training and the quality of the gear available to everyday practitioners. Most Muay Thai shorts were either boring and generic, or tried too hard and missed the mark artistically.

Stephen's background is in art and design, and he brings that lens to every pair of shorts SHIPSCO produces. Most designs start as drawings — actual hand-drawn sketches that get refined into the finished product. When specific design elements call for Thai lettering or traditional Thai artistic motifs, SHIPSCO works with Thai lettering artists to get it right. No stock art. No templates. Every design is original.

The result is gear that looks like it was made with intention — because it was.

Design as Identity

Different fighters are drawn to different aesthetics, and that's exactly the point. Some of our most popular designs lean into nature imagery — predators, florals, creatures with symbolic weight. The [Bobcat Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/bobcat-muay-thai-shorts) speak to fighters who prize speed and cunning over brute force. The [Raptor Muay Thai Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/raptor-muay-thai-short) are for the fighter who's always in attack mode. The [Marigold](https://shipscofight.com/products/marigold-muay-thai-shorts) and [White Rose](https://shipscofight.com/products/white-rose-muay-thai-shorts) designs prove you can be fierce and beautiful at the same time.

Some designs are playful and irreverent — the [Donut Muay Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/donut-muay-shorts), the [Combat Crap Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/combat-crap-muay-thai-shorts), the legendary [Junk Food Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/junk-food-muay-thai-shorts-purple-pink-aka-snack-muays). Because Muay Thai should also be fun. Not everything needs to be grim and intimidating.

And then there are the collaborations — pieces made alongside other artists and athletes that bring a different creative perspective entirely. The [Roberto Armas Teotl Fight Shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/roberto-armas-teotl-fight-shorts), the [Egg Rice collab](https://shipscofight.com/products/egg-rice-muay-thai-shorts), the [Ramen x Soup shorts](https://shipscofight.com/products/ramen-muay-thai-shorts-shipsco-x-soup). These are limited, collectible pieces that sit at the intersection of fight culture and fine art.

## Muay Thai Is for Everyone Who Wants to Express Themselves

One of the things we're most intentional about at SHIPSCO is the sizing range. We run from 3XS to 5XL in American sizing because creativity doesn't come in one size. Neither does Muay Thai.

We've seen the traditional martial arts world gatekeep fitness level, body type, and experience level — and we reject all of it. Whether you're a competitive fighter with twenty bouts under your belt or someone who just walked into their first fundamentals class, you deserve gear that makes you feel like yourself.

That's not a small thing. Feeling comfortable in your own skin — and your own shorts — is foundational to the kind of confidence that makes you better in the gym and outside of it.

Beyond the Gym

There's one more dimension to this worth mentioning: Muay Thai has a way of bleeding into the rest of your life. The discipline, the creativity, the willingness to be vulnerable and keep learning — these aren't things that stay at the gym door. They come home with you.

When SHIPSCO founder Stephen Jones built this brand, he described it as choosing to "invest in the community that invested in me." The Muay Thai community gave him a space to grow as an artist and a human, and the gear he makes is his way of giving that back — to every person who walks into a gym for the first time, every competitor preparing for their next fight, every practitioner who uses training as a form of self-discovery.

Your gear is part of that story. Make it one worth telling.
