November is Diabetes awareness month 💙 We have long respected the challenges people with T1D face, especially as serious athletes, paired with menstrual cycles, weight cutting and even more so just maintaining and living your everyday life. The spikes hit like a storm, and it is with that resolve we’ve launched our T1D (Type 1 Diabetes) Storm Shorts.
Our friends @shay__butter__ and @hayleyeday came to us to create some shorts that would raise awareness in the Muay Thai scene. We are happy to donate a portion of the proceeds in support of T1D research.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the body mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. This results in little to no insulin being made, which prevents glucose from entering the body’s cells for energy and causes high blood sugar levels. People with type 1 diabetes must take insulin, often through daily injections, along with managing their diet and physical activity to regulate their blood glucose. This is a lifelong challenge often progressing with age.
In the United States, approximately 1.6 million people have type 1 diabetes, with about 304,000 children and adolescents and 1.4 million adults. An estimated 64,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
